Making his Graduation Music debut today is South Boston artist Samuell and his latest single, “Runnin”. Admittedly, I wasn’t hip to this rising talent prior to this aside from some of his work as part of Boston’s Gone Broke Collective, but needless to say, he certainly caught my ears with the vocal ranges and hypnotic abilities of his latest offering. A nice tip from @gregisonfire put me on to the song, and ever since, I haven’t been able to keep this one out of my rotation.
Produced by Penacho, “Runnin” seems to work so well partially due to the mesmerizing instrumental. Bubbling notes grasp the full force of Samuell’s vocals, and listeners are able to hear his full potential over a slow-burning instrumental that deserves to be played again and again… and again. Only adding to the numerous standout elements on the track is a stellar display of lyricism and songwriting capabilities from the Boston native, marking him as an incredibly promising talent to watch out for.
