In such a controversial time in the United States, the artists brave enough to speak their mind on prevalent issues almost always prove to be the ones that people can get behind and support for the long run. New Bedford’s own Fresco does just this with his newest single “Okay Okay”. Politically-minded, the track acts as a showcase of the rising artist’s lyricism while emphasizing the importance of every line with the discussion of pressing topics in society right now.
Mixing this sheer talent with such a raw beat clearly proves to make for a banger, and I can’t wait to watch “Okay Okay” do numbers, all the while empowering citizens and speaking for a meaningful cause. In addition, we were fortunate enough to interview Fresco about his home city, his goals in music, and more. Not only was he knowledgeable and genuine, but he clears shows leadership in a time where people need it most. Check out the interview below:
For those who don’t know, who is Fresco?
For those who don’t know Fresco, I’m a 24-year-old artist and DJ from New Bedford, MA, about an hour south of Boston.
The city of New Bedford is a huge melting pot. We’ve got everything- the good, the bad, the ugly. It’s so rich in culture and at the same time we’ve got one of the worst crime rates in the state. I get inspired by the everyday things I see and the people around me. For a city that was once at the top, we’re looking to bring it back.
As of late, the community has been responding really positively to what’s been going on. I know that the unity has always been there but not until recently have I seen it firsthand. We got the police chief, city councilman, etc. all rallying together to stand up to hate, and it feels good knowing we have those kinds of people on the same page.
With this project, my goal was really just to make a statement. I’m a huge fan Hip Hop in general so I’m typically versatile with the sound of my music. With this track in particular, I decided to get political but at the same time give people something they can actually bump. But ironically, with the controversial events that recently took place, this became more than that. I want it to empower people and show the importance in strength and unity.
This song is my anthem right now. It’s the deepest song and video we’ve put together to date. We’re trying to make some noise and right now is perfect timing.
Expect a lot more dope music from Fresco in the near future. Solo project dropping late 4th quarter/early 1st quarter. Right now the single is available on iTunes.
