Cave has blessed us with some introspective, entertaining songs and videos over the last few months, and his newest project, Lil’ Derick The EP, is finally here. He briefly explained the project in the description on SoundCloud, saying:
I DESIGNED THESE SERIES OF PIECES FRESH OFF A DRUG INDUCED LOVE AND THE HEARTBREAK THAT FOLLOWED </3
And after reading this, I feel that my appreciation for the EP is more thorough, allowing myself (and other fans) to truly understand the mix of emotions that Cave was feeling during the process of making such an intense yet entertaining project. Only 3 tracks long, the multitalented artist covers quite a lot of ground on this one, offering aggressive flows and personal commentaries, all the while evaluating himself in a sense and letting his energy lead him through his relationship/breakup. Each of the three tracks hits hard and generates a picture of what’s going on with Cave, furthering himself and making me even more of a fan than I was. I really enjoy Lil’ Derick The EP as a whole with all the different emotions it comes with, my favorite song being the last one, “Say Yes”, only because Cave is happy at where he’s at yet worn out from his relationship and life as a whole, a contrast that makes too much sense over the calmed production. If you’re looking for an emotionally raw and honest piece you found it, and I recommend holding on to this one – Cave is dropping some amazing music that deserves all the recognition it’s getting if not more.
